The government recently pledged to force greedy restaurant, cafe and bar owners to stop taking cash left for staff by customers or using tips to top up the workers' minimum wage. This will be forbidden as of October 1. You might think that  restaurant Bosses would be shamed into doing the right thing before October 1. Some have, like Pizza Express. Others, however, seem to have no shame. They are intent on using tips belonging to their staff right up to the last minute. Tragus, which owns the Strada, Bella Italia, Belgo and Cafe Rouge chains is one of the worst.

Operational support manager Rebecca Surrell-Parfitt actually defended their actions saying that grabbing staff tips was "common practice within the restaurant industry."
